Updated: BBC's FightBox: the game 4:18PM, Friday 9th January 2004
FightBox is the BBC gameshow that features real-life contestants fighting one another using virtual characters. Four years in development, and at a cost of between £3-4 million to produce, ratings suggest the show attracted an average BBC3 audience of just 22,000 viewers. On BBC2 since November, however, the show has been pulling in upto 1.8 million on a Friday evening, so the BBC informs us.

In common with much of the population we've never seen the show - it is still running on BBC2 - so we can't comment as to its quality. Nevertheless, the Beeb has deemed the show worthy of a videogame spin-off for PC, PS2 and GBA.

The FightBox game is currently in development at Gamezlab, BBC Multimedia's development studio. The BBC Worldwide's director of multimedia, Dave Lee, said: 'FightBox is unique. There's nothing like it on television, and it also represents a unique gaming concept.'

Didn't someone once say something like that about Monkey Tennis? Whatever, you can check the official FightBox website here should you fancy it.
